IIT Alumni Council is the nodal alumni body for alumni of all the Indian Institutes of Technology. It facilitates interlinkages between IIT Alumni and decision makers in India, specifically with the objective of encouraging their participation in nation building. It maintains the global database of alumni (www.iit.directory), facilitates alumni participation in professional events and promotes Brand IIT and IIT Alumni globally.

Activities

The nation building activities of the IIT Alumni Council are closely aligned with India’s stated objective to evolve into a leading global soft power offering its citizens a good quality of life. The IIT Alumni Council is initially focused on four areas: Engineering excellence in emerging technologies; Empowerment and inclusion; Employment and entrepreneurship; Environment, sustainability and climate change.

Batch Alumni

The IIT Alumni Council is organised by age, geography, expertise and roles. The Batch council comprises of one representative of each pass-out batch of each IIT. The City Council comprises of alumni leaders located in a particular city. The Technology Council comprises of eminent alumni with an aptitude for R&D. Volunteers man the Administrative Council which overseas the global virtual organisation of a million IIT Alumni.

IIT Alumni have the range and depth of experience, and importantly, credibility to effectively help address several major challenges facing India. They are manifestly relevant to meeting national goals such as (digital) empowerment, (social) inclusion and (entrepreneurship led) employment generation. The IIT Alumni Council provides the necessary linkages between the alumni, policy makers and economic leaders to help India evolve into a leading soft superpower of the world without sacrificing the cardinal principles of sustainable growth, democratic governance, secularism and equality
